Let's Make a Spider Clip Ornament!

These instructions are translated from the original Czech instructions included in the DIY Spider Clip Ornament Kit. Use this translation, paired with the illustrations provided on the original instructions to make your ornament.

The Spider Clip Ornament comes together easily and is a great kit for kids ages 8+ with adult help, or 10+ on their own. Kids will be able to do all of the beading work, and adults should help with the wire work. Just be careful and remember that the beads are made of glass and are fragile!

Materials

To make the Spider Ornament you will need a Spider Clip Ornament Kit and a pair of scissors.

The kit includes ...

  • 2-unit Banquet Bead x 1
  • 3-unit Banquet Bead x2
  • Large Oval Bead x 1
  • Small Oval Bead x 20
  • Raspberry Bead x 1
  • Seed Beads for Legs and Body x 14
  • Seed Beads for Eyes x 2
  • Clip x 1
  • Thin Wood Skewer
  • Beading Wire

Make The Body

Cut the Beading Wire in half.

Thread a Seed Bead onto one piece of the wire and bring the bead to the center point. Fold the wire in half around the Seed Bead, and twist to secure. Thread both ends of the wire through the Raspberry Bead, in the direction as indicated in the illustration. (abr. 1)

Insert the 2-unit Banquet Bead in between the two wires (not threaded), and twist to secure. Then, thread both ends of the wire first through the Small Oval Bead, and then through a Seed Bead. (abr. 2)

Use the Thin Wood Skewer to make a wire loop at the top of the stack of beads: place the skewer behind the wire, wrap the wire around the skewer and then twist the skewer. Remove the skewer and trim the wire. (abr. 3)

Make the Legs

FIRST PAIR

Using one of the wire pieces trimmed off the body, and the Thin Wooden Skewer, make a small loop at one end of the wire: Place the Skewer behind the wire about .5 inch from one end, wrap the wire around the skewer and then twist the skewer. Remove the Skewer, but do not cut the wire.

Onto the other end of the wire, thread one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, one Small Oval Bead, and one 3-unit Banquet Bead, in that order (as pictured), hiding the cut end of the looped wire inside the beads. Then, thread the wire through the 2-unit Banquet Bead at the center of the Body. (abr. 4)

Now, thread the beads in the reverse order: one 3-unit Banquet Bead, one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, and one Small Oval Bead. Use the Thin Wood Skewer to make a loop at the end of the leg, as described above for the body: place the skewer behind the wire, wrap the wire around the skewer and then twist the skewer. Remove the skewer and trim the wire. (abr. 5)

SECOND PAIR & EYES

For the next pair of Legs, use the longest piece of the remaining wire. Create a loop at one end, as described for the First Pair: Place the Skewer behind the wire about .5 inch from one end, wrap the wire around the skewer and then twist the skewer. Remove the Skewer, but do not cut the wire.

Onto the other end of the wire, thread one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, and one Small Oval Bead, in that order (as pictured), hiding the cut end of the looped wire inside the beads.

Wrap the wire around the first ridge of the 3-unit Banquet Bead on the left side of the Body, then thread through one Eye Bead. (abr. 6)

Now, wrap the wire between the Large Oval Bead and the Seed Bead at the top of the Body. Thread through the second Eye Bead, and then wrap around the first ridge of the 3-unit Banquet Bead on the right side of the Body.

Thread the wire through one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead, and one Small Oval Bead, in that order. Finally, make a loop at the end of the Leg and trim, as described for the First Pair. (abr. 7)

THIRD PAIR

Create a loop at one end of the remaining wire, as described for the previous Legs. Thread onto the wire one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead and one Small Oval Bead, in that order (as pictured). Then thread the wire through the 2-unit Banquet Bead at the center of the Body. (abr. 8)

Now, thread one Small Oval Bead, one Seed Bead and one Small Oval Bead, and finish with a loop, as for the previous Legs. (abr. 9)

FOURTH PAIR

Repeat as for the THIRD PAIR. (abr. 10)

Attach the Clip

Fold the Remaining wire in half and thread this double wire through the holes found at the bottom of the Clip. Bring the clip to the middle of the wire. Wrap the wire tightly between the Raspberry and the 2-unit Banquet Bead 2-3 times to secure. Clip the loose ends. (abr. 11)

Straighten out the Spider and you're all finished! (abr.12)
