Let's Make a Lace Star Ornament!
These instructions are translated from the original Czech instructions included in the DIY Lace Star Ornament Kit. Use this translation, paired with the illustrations provided on the instruction sheet to make your ornament.
The Lace Star Ornament comes together easily and is a great kit for kids ages 6+ with adult help. Kids will be able to do all of the beading work, and adults should help with the wire work. Just be careful and remember that the beads are made of glass and are fragile!
Materials
To make the Lace Star ornament you will need a Lace Star Ornament Kit and a pair of scissors.
The kit includes ...
- 10 mm Round Glass Bead x 10
- 6mm Round Glass Bead x 10
- 4-unit Banquet Bead x 20
- Small Rod Bead x 20
- Long Rod with Loops x 1
- Beading Wire x 2
Make The Inner Star
Thread the ten 6mm Round Beads onto one of the strips of Beading Wire. Center the beads on the wire and bend to create a wreath. Twist the wire together twice to secure, making sure to keep the beads a little loose. (abr. 1)
Thread two Small Rod Beads onto one of the strips of wire. (abr. 2)
Bend the wire so that the two Rod Beads make a point. Pass the wire in between two 6mm beads and pull tight. (abr. 3)
Repeat the last step to make 5 points with each end of the wire. You will end with 10 points total. Once the two ends of wire meet, twist them together several times to secure, and cut. (abr. 4)
Make the Outer Star
Take the second strip of Beading Wire and thread it through one of the points of the Inner Star so that there is a 1-inch overhang. Bend the wire back on itself and twist to secure. Thread two Banquet Beads onto the wire, hiding the twisted bit inside the Bead. (abr. 5)
Bend to create a point with the two Banquet Beads, and thread the wire through the adjacent point of the Inner Star, and pull tight. (abr. 6)
Repeat the last step 8 times. You will have made 9 points on your star. For the final point, thread one Banquet Bead, then pass the wire through one loop at the base of the Rod, then thread through the remaining Banquet Bead. Twist the wire around the adjacent point of the Inner Star, but do not clip. (abr. 7)
Add the Beads
Now, we will weave the 10mm Beads into the Star.
Thread one 10mm Round Bead on the wire. Then wrap the wire around the adjacent point of the Inner Star. Repeat this step for all 9 remaining Beads. At the end, wrap the wire 2-3 times around the point, and trim. (abr. 8)
Straighten out the ornament, and you are all finished! (abr. 9)
