Let's Make a Snowman Ornament!
These instructions are translated from the original Czech instructions included in the DIY Snowman Bead Ornament Kit. Use this translation, paired with the illustrations provided on the original instructions to make your ornament.
The Snowman Ornament comes together easily and is a great kit for kids ages 6+ with adult help. Kids will be able to do all of the beading work, and adults should help with the wire work - in particular making the final loops with the pliers. Just be careful and remember that the beads are made of glass and are fragile!
Materials
To make the Snowman ornament you will need a Snowman Ornament Kit and a pair of scissors.
The kit includes ...
- 4mm Round Glass Beads x 11
- 14mm Round Glass Bead with a face x 1
- 20mm Round Glass Bead with buttons x 1
- Seed Bead x 1
- Round Sequin x 1
- Lace Cap x 1
- Needle with Flat Base x 1
- Needle with Looped Base x 1
- Thin Beading Wire
- Needle Nose Pliers
Make Scarf
Thread one 4mm Bead onto the wire and bring the bead close the the end of the wire, leaving about 1-inch. Fold the wire around the Bead, and twist to secure. (abr. 1)
Now, continue to thread the remaining 4mm Round Beads onto the wire, hiding the cut end inside the beads. We alternated colors to create a striped pattern. (abr. 2)
Bend the beaded wire in a small loop of 6 beads and twist to secure. Don't make the Beads too tight, or they will crack. Finish the end of the wire by twisting it around the last Bead. Trim the remaining wire. (abr. 3)
Make the Snowman
On the Needle with a Flat Base, thread the sequin, 20mm Bead, Scarf, 14mm Bead, Lace Cap and Seed Bead, in that order. (abr.4)
Using the Needle Nose Pliers, grab the tip of the Needle and bend it around to make a small loop at the top of the Snowman. (abr. 5)
[NOTE: The final step has you make a wire hook for hanging your Snowman. We found this step rather difficult. You may follow the instructions as written, or simply thread a string though the completed loop to hang]
Use the pliers to open up the small loop at the end of the Needle with Looped Base. Thread the loop of the Needle through the loop at the top of the Snowman, and then use the pliers to close again. Now, use the pliers to bend the Needle into the shape of a hook. (abr.6)
