KELLNER / STECKFIGUREN
German | Established 1930
Kellner Steckfiguren are distinguished by their colorful wood pieces, rubber connectors, wool felt accessories, and quirky animal faces. They are a great toy for anyone who loves to build, and once constructed, they look like a work of modern art!
Each kit comes with a collection of wood pieces and coordinating rubber connectors. There are infinite ways you can assemble the figures, and you can do it different every time!
What is the history of Kellner figures?
Kellner, trained as a piano maker, developed a patented system of building blocks in different colors and shapes in 1930 in Germany. He created an entire cast of figures, mythical creatures, animals, and vehicles which could be fitted together with the aid of elastic connecting links. Under socialism the wooden components were replaced by plastic and Kellner's business was converted into a state-owned company in 1972. Production eventually shut down in 1989. In 1992 his grandson re-established the line of famous snap-on figures in wood again, with leather and colored felt.
Where are Kellner Kits Made?
Kellner kits continue to be handmade in Germany, just like the old days. The Kellner workshop is nestled in Bad Tabarz, where they host a small museum, create the classic Kellner figures, and dream up new figures based on the traditional designs.
What is the best age for Kellner Kits?
Kellner kits are great for kids ages 4 and up. Little kids will love building with these creative kits, but older kids (and adults!) will really appreciate the wacky characters and distinct style of these historic toys. The rubber connectors and other small parts are not suitable for children under the age of 3.
